Our 2018.
A year of settling in to our city, our home, our marriage, and our lives.
A year of settling in to our city, our home, our marriage, and our lives.
We start the year off right, in Chloe's opinion, with a few classic SoCal Hikes: tide pools (previous), Cucamonga peak, Mt. Black and more. Sunrise to sunset we explore the mountains and forests of San Bernardino, Angeles National Forest and Los Padres.
Our "Big Trip" of the year: Morocco! Deserts, mountains, souks, kasbahs, rugs, ruins, camels – this North African country showed us a great time.
Of course, we continue our rock climbing adventures (Chloe doesn't approve of them quite as much). We joined up with friends to climb Red Rocks in Nevada, summited Tahquitz mountain, played in Utah and Washington, and explored our own backyard.
My Grandfather passed away this year. He was always a teacher at heart, and he left a legacy of students in all us Grandchildren – I think he was happy and proud. It was wonderful to spend time with the family. We love and miss you, Grandpa.
We started the summer off right, spending our Fourth of July in perfect American fashion: Baseball and beers, fireworks and friends. The rest was filled with trips to Seattle, weddings, another move, and of course lots of work (Brett spent 10 weeks in a row travelling!).
We moved out of our somewhat boring house into quaint, bikable, fun, and beachy Seal Beach house. Come visit, we have guest rooms!
It isn't all fun and exploration: work sometimes intrudes. Brett spent time 1000' underground in an environmentally friendly mine, and 100m above ground helping keep wind turbines operational. Then he got back to his old expertise, helping the Army keep their Bradleys up and running.
And fun news: Brett received his first and second patents (and a third is pending!)
Unable to sit still for more than a few months we ran up to Seattle to visit Stephanie and some old friends. We hiked the forests, climbed the mountains, explored the alpine lakes and generally relaxed.
Our fall was filled with friends! A trip to Utah, folks visiting from afar, a wonderful Thanksgiving. We also began exploring our new Seal Beach home – and bagging lots of peaks with Chloe!
In summary, another highly successful year filled to the brim. Thank you for being in our lives, and
“Oh wait”, Chloe says,
