A recent trip to Alaska made me realize that an unprotected ice axe leaves holes in everything it touches. So I whipped up these 3D printable axe protectors!

Designed to fit a Petzl Quark, it is easy to fine-tune to different axes. Using ABS, the pick protector is 3.9g and the adze is 11.3g. Friction mostly works but the 3mm holes are there to secure it with chord. Personally, I this this is better than the OEM caps… Certainly better than the cardboard, duct tape, plastic tubing, garden hose, tennis balls, pool noodle, bike tire, or any other method I’ve tried.
